"And Guess What I Found..." Part 1: 79-86

After last week's introduction , it's time to get to the songs themselves. A couple of things before we start though... Firstly, the eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that there are eight songs here rather than the traditional ten. This is because I'm covering 86 songs altogether, so I thought it made sense to do two lots of eight then seven sets of ten (see the main page for the schedule). Secondly, we need to talk about Valentina ... Gedge's fondness for big band music was already well established by the time it was announced that there would be a jazzy Cinerama reworking of Valentina . In 2009, David had performed a selection of Cinerama and TWP songs (including ' Brassneck ' and 'Cat Girl Tights') with the BBC Big Band for Radio 2 .  There were some TWP fans who enjoyed this material, but they were in the minority. I have to confess that I was in the negative camp: I thought the arrangements didn't suit the songs or David's voice a

Between October 2020 and January 2021 I wrote a blog called Suddenly It's Tuesday , which ranked all 223 Wedding Present songs. However, after three final gigs in January 1997, Gedge decided to take an extended sabbatical from TWP.  After the heady heights of achieving a dozen top 30 hits in 1992, he had clearly become, if not disillusioned, then at least keen to try out new approaches. 1994's Watusi  had certainly broadened The Wedding Present's sound (with mixed results), and whilst Mini and Saturnalia  were still filled with the trademark sounds and lyrical themes established in the late 80s/early 90s, it was clear that David was itching

A-Z of Cinerama Songs

For this blog, I have included tracks released on Cinerama's LPs, singles and compilations (see Discogs ). This includes the 2015 reworking of Valentina . However, I have not included 'old' TWP songs such as 'Bewitched' and 'Kansas' that appeared on Cinerama live albums. This leaves us with 86 songs: 10 Denier 146 Degrees 524 Fidelio 7X Airborne All The Things She Said Always The Quiet One And When She Was Bad Apres Ski As If Au Pair Back a Bit...Stop Barefoot in the Park Because I’m Beautiful Careless Cat Girl Tights Christmas Song* Cita a Ciegues Close Up Comedienne Crusoe Dance, Girl, Dance Deer Caught in the Headlights Diamonds Are Forever Don’t Touch That Dial Ears Edinburgh Elenore End Credits Erinner Dich Estrella Film Get Smart Get Up and Go Gigolo Girl on a Motorcycle Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) Hard, Fast and Beautiful Hate Health and Efficiency Heels Honey Rider I Wake Up Screaming It's Not You, It's Me Kerry Kerry King’s Cross Larr
